Week 11

This week I built on the scene from last weeks art piece. The main character is seen reaching for the dragon that has shown itself loyal to her yet she doesn't quite understand why.

Special Addition Blog Post: Michael Hedges

Four weeks ago our class went to an artist talk at our on campus gallery. The artist that had came in to talk was Michael Hedges. He's an abstract painter that uses various types of techniques to create different colors and textures on his paintings. One of his paintings that caught my eye in particular was a piece that he had done on linen. the brown color of the linen definitely made it stand out among the others that were mostly done on canvas. What was interesting to me was that he would take a large piece of linen and paint on the front and the back and would cut out certain parts that he thought could be paintings. The fact that he painted on the front and the back gave a matte effect to some of the strokes of color that were done on the opposite side.

Week Ten

This week I responded to some advice to add more characters and to have the main character interact with the environment. This is done with watercolor pencils on watercolor paper. This scene jumps ahead in the story line to the first time that the main character encounters the one surviving dragon.

Week Seven

This week we were given the task of creating a piece inspired by an artist. My inspiration for this piece was J. M. W. Turner. I attempted to recreate his use of contrast of light in dark that you see in his piece Fisherman at Sea. This piece continues the story, taking place after the main character wakes up hours after she first lands, finding herself surrounded by glowing orbs like the one she followed.

Week Six

This week our assignment was to create a drawing and make 3 copies and do something different to each copy. This drawing is a continuation of the story being told in my drawings. This one is what happens after she lands in the other dimension. I used watercolor pencils and regular color pencils.
